Electing to bat, Australia scored 254 for four at close on the opening day of the first cricket Test against India. The visitors were in for a rude shock after skipper Ricky Ponting had opted to bat on a balmy morning when Zaheer Khan had the prolific Matthew Hayden nicking to Dhoni and did remarkably well to recover from Hayden's third-ball dismissal.
